Classroom News for the Week of March 14th

News and Upcoming Events:
  • Student authored Book Project -  Last week students received back their drafts with my notes and suggestions. This week- Continue to revise and proofread your stories carefully. Read your story aloud to several family members to get feedback. When you are finished, bring in the final story on your flash drive and a final printed copy. I will print your story on the publisher's special paper from your flash drive and you can begin illustrating. We will hang the printed copy for your classmates to read and enjoy. Bring in your work as soon as you are done, and no later than Friday, March 18.
  • Intervention Classes - Class are Monday and Wednesday at 2:40 for selected students.
  • 3/15 - Final Early Dismissal- This Tuesday 3/15 is the last day of early dismissal. For the remainder of the year, school lets out at 2:30 on Tuesdays.
  • 3/21- 3/24 Spring Break 
  • 3/28 School Closed for Cesar Chavez Holiday
  • 4/1 Field Trip To Autry Museum - Please make sure to sign the trip slip and return it a.s.a.p. We can take 2 chaperones on this trip. Please be prepared to ride the bus with the students and help supervise. Our trip is from 11 am until 2:30. Please email me if you would like to attend (slc5001@lausd.net). Chaperones will be assigned on a first-come/first-serve basis.

By The Great Horn Spoon (an adventure tale in the Gold Rush) Chapters 5-9. Have your child give you a quick oral summary of the events they have read so far. 

Reading Irish folktales and Legends.

"Genre Genius" goals for the 3rd reporting period.


Writing:

Creating "Sensory Figures"; Response to Reading (Journal Entries); Writing Autobiographical Sketches "About the Author"

Social Studies/Science:

SS: The Effects of the Gold Rush; Multiple Perspectives
Science: Life Science unit begins

 Please make sure your child is at school and in line by the 8:06 bell. We try to start the school day at 8:11 promptly. Thank you for your help!

Homework:
Please check your child's Homework Log nightly and sign or initial after the work has been completed. Remind your child that completed homework and the HW log are due in class daily.
