8/21 The Great Eclipse! We will be viewing the partial solar eclipse from the yard. Students will be given NASA approved eyewear to wear for the duration of the event. Please make sure you sign and return the green permission form sent home Friday. Your child will not be able to participate without it.
8/22 Early Dismissal Tuesdays begin. Students will be dismissed at 1:34 p.m.
8/31 Back to School Night 5:30 MPR, Classroom Presentations will be held in rm. 12 at 6:00 and 6:30 p.m.

What's Going On This Week In Class:
Responsive Classroom: This week we will be busy reviewing Rm. 12's class procedures and routines, as well as discussing the class rules we created last week. Through Morning Meetings, Closing Circles, and other activities we will continue to get to know one another better.

Reading:
This week we will begin reading Katherine Peterson's Newbery-award winning book, Bridge to Terabithia (realistic fiction). Our focus will be on drawing conclusions and making inferences about characters based on their thoughts and actions. Students will also identify cliffhangers and make predictions based on events in the book.

Writing:
This week students will continue to write (plan, draft, revise, edit, and publish) personal narratives about a happy memory. This writing piece will serve as baseline assessment. From it, we will begin to establish writing goals for the upcoming narrative writing unit.
Arts:
We will begin 12 weeks of drama instruction with Ms. Beret on Wednesdays.
Students are continuing to paint a scene about a happy memory.
