Classroom News for the Week of April 2nd

News and Upcoming Events: 

4/2 Cesar Chavez Birthday observed. No school. No orchestra class this week.

4/3 Walk Wise Safety Presentation.

4/3 Books due. If your child took his/her book home over the break to complete illustrations, make sure s/he returns all pages, in order, in the envelope provided. Please return any borrowed markers as well.

4/4 Bring in your gallon ziplock bag of "junk" to build your research project animal. Label your bag with your name.

4/5 Field Trip to Placerita Canyon. Wear your field trip T-shirt, bring a lunch and snack (reusable lunch containers are encouraged), and dress appropriately for the weather. All chaperone spots have been filled. Chaperones, I will be sending you a detailed email on Tuesday. Thank you!

4/6 First Grade Buddies

April is National Poetry Month- Your child will have a brief home assignment to complete. Detailed instructions will come home Tuesday 4/3. You may also view the assignment "National Poetry Month" from the link "Class Handouts" on the right side of this page.

We need a parent volunteer to bind student work. I can show you how to use the school's spiral binder. You would be working in the workroom just off the main office. Please make sure your child is at school and in line by the 8:06 bell. We try to start the school day at 8:11 promptly. Thank you for your help!

Homework:
Please check your child's Homework Log nightly and sign or initial after the work has been completed. Remind your child that completed homework and the HW log are due in class daily.

Birthday Celebrations: If you would like to send treats to celebrate your child's birthday, please email me a day or 2 in advance so that I can make time in our schedule for it. Treats must be something small and easy to pass out. Donuts, cookies, muffins, and mini cupcakes all work great. We currently have 30 students in our class. Your child will distribute them at the end of the day as his/her classmates are leaving the room.

Donations: If you would like to make a donation to our class (this allows me to turn in receipts for purchases I have made for the students), you can write a check to "Mt. Washington El." In the subject line write, "Donation to Room 12". Any amount is appreciated! Thank you!
