Classroom News for the Week of October 29th

News and Upcoming Events: 

Parent conferences begin the week of November 5th. Please click on the the link below to choose a slot for your child's conference. Please make note of your selected time. An email reminder will be sent a few days prior. No paper notice will be sent home.

10/29 - Orchestra students: Bring your instruments.


10/31 - Halloween parade 1:30 (please note the time change from 1:00) - Students can bring costumes in a bag. No fake weapons. Please do not send any treats or sweets on this day. If you would like to assist students in getting ready, come to the class at 1:00. There will be no HW Wednesday evening. Have fun!

11/5 - 11/9 - Parent Conferences. School is dismissed at 12:54 each day except Tuesday (1:34).

11/12 - Veterans' Day Holiday - No School

11/14 - Class Play! You are invited to come see the class play "East of the Sun, West of the Moon" in the MPR. The time is still to be determined, but likely will be either 8:15 or 8:30. Please check next week's blog for show time.

11/19- 11/23 Thanksgiving Holiday - No school

Items Needed:  Balsa wood scraps (large pieces). These can be purchased at craft stores, on Amazon ($16.99 for a bag), or we will take any pieces you may have at home. The more the better!  It would be great to have these by Friday.

What's Going On This Week In Class:

Math: 

Word problems with area and perimeter. Solving word problems with multiplication. 

Fluency with Math Facts

Reading:

Chapters 17-23 of Scott O'Dell's Newbery-Award winning book, Island of the Blue Dolphins. We will be using the "Change Over Time" icon to help examine how Karana's life has changed since the beginning of the book.

Scholastic News: "Invasion of the Jellyfish" - Identifying cause and effect.

Please check your child's Homework Log nightly and sign or initial after the work has been completed. Remind your child that completed homework and the HW log are due in class daily.
