Classroom News for the Week of January 27th


Items Needed:

* Many students have filled or have almost filled their spiral writing notebooks. Please check in with your child and purchase a new one if needed. Unfortunately, the school does not provide this item. Thank you!

Updates and Reminders:

* 1/28 Field trip to JPL. All students must bring a sack lunch. Have a hearty breakfast as there will not be time for a snack. Volunteers, please come to the classroom by 8:15 and remember to bring your government issued ID. You will not be admitted to JPL without it.

Writing:

Revision Mini-Lessons: Revealing Character Through Descriptions

Experimenting with hyperbole.

Reading:

This week we are beginning a tall tale unit. We will be reading and discussing several tall tales and examining their characteristics (author's craft). In the next two weeks, students will begin writing their own tall tales for the annual student-authored book project. Stay tuned for more details.

Greek and Latin Roots Homework:

To culminate our unit, you will take a quiz on the roots/prefixes you have learned on Jan. 31. All 4th graders will take the matching quiz. 

The Spelling Bee will be held Feb. 7. Please scroll down to the bottom of the blog to see a copy of the list of spelling bee words and the list of roots and prefixes on the quiz.
