Classroom News for the Week of May 12th


THANK YOU!!!

Thank you all so much for the delicious dinner-box, pastries, chocolates, flowers, cards, and the Keurig coffee and tea. Wow! You are all so generous and kind. Thank you for making the week so memorable! I truly appreciate it!

News and Upcoming Events:

* Typed "Postmaster General" letter due Tuesday. If your child needs more time, please turn it in no later than Wednesday (5/14).

* Our class will visit the book fair on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week at 2:00 p.m. 

* Smarter Balance Testing - (English/Language Arts) has been rescheduled for Wednesday, May 14 at 8:30 a.m. because of a conflict with the orchestra schedule.

* May 15th - Early Dismissal (12:50 p.m.) Open House (6 - 7 p.m)

* May 16th - Jazz in Schools Concert 10:30 am

* May 19th - Orchestra students perform

* May 20th - Volunteer Tea

* May 23rd - Grades 4 & 5 Field Trip to the Natural History Museum

Math: 

Polygon review - Quiz on Friday; Symmetry and Congruence; Roman Numerals

English Language Arts /Social Studies/ PE/ Arts:

We are beginning a new unit on this summer's upcoming World Cup. Each student has chosen a country to research and become an expert on. In addition, this wee, students will be reading non-fiction articles about the official mascot of the games "Fuleco", the tough job of refereeing the games, and controversy surrounding the stadium building in Brazil.

Students will also be using VTS (Visual Thinking Strategy) to analyze photographs of children at play around the world.

* If your child has a soccer ball s/he can bring and leave at school this week, that would be helpful. Please make sure his or her name is on it. Thank you!
