Classroom News for the Week of September 18th

News and Upcoming Events:

Monday 9/18: Please make sure your child return's his/her (empty) Friday Folder.

Social Studies HW: On Monday the children will receive their first social studies HW assignment. This assignment is due Wednesday. This HW does count as part of their SS grade. They should make sure they answer all sections/  questions thoroughly and in complete sentences. Students completed an assignment in class last week which they will get back graded, and with my notes. Please review it with them and guide them to do their best on the new assignment.

The "Summary" section is the only optional section, and can be completed on a separate paper and stapled to the assignment for extra credit. No language arts HW will be assigned on Monday to facilitate completion of SS. This assignment is based on the previous week's SS lesson, so all concepts and vocabulary should be familiar to the students.

Tuesday 9/19: Bridge to Terabithia movie (Moved from Monday.)

Thursday 9/21: Unassigned Day- no school.

JPL field trip update: Thank you to the many parents who were online and typing as fast as possible. I truly appreciate your time and effort! Ms. Sakahara was able to secure us a field trip date. Yay, Team!

Student Council update: Congratulations to all the students who took a risk and ran for student council. The speeches were sincere, persuasive, and well-delivered. Good job, Future Leaders! Congratulations to room 12 representatives, Weston and Elsa!

Other Donations: If you would like to make a donation to our class (this allows me to turn in receipts for purchases I have made for the students), you can write a check to "Mt. Washington El." In the subject line write, "Donation to Room 12". Any amount is appreciated! Thank you!

Birthday Celebrations: If you would like to send treats to celebrate your child's birthday, please email me a day or 2 in advance so that I can make time in our schedule for it. Treats must be something small and easy to pass out. Donuts, cookies, muffins, and mini cupcakes all work great. We currently have 30 students in our class. Your child will distribute them at the end of the day as their classmates are leaving the room.
