Classroom News for the Week of March 2nd

News and Upcoming Events: 
Congratulations to all the 4th grade Spelling Bee participants!  After nearly an hour and a half of spelling, we were left with an all-time high of 11 finalists. Great job, Everyone!

3/19 2nd Annual Wolves-on-Wheels 
Let's have great night and skate together from 5-7 p.m. at Moonlight Rollerway in Glendale! $20 ticket donation per person. Your $20 donation includes skate rental. Everyone who enters must have a ticket regardless if they skate or not. We'll be selling tickets before and after school at the top of the ramp. Cash only - no refunds.

This was a really fun night and a successful fundraiser for us last year. From last year's proceeds, grade 4 purchased circuit boards for science, wobbly chairs, art supplies, and new copies of Bud, Not Buddy. All proceeds go to upper grade classrooms.

Field Trip to JPL. All chaperone spots have been filled.

Notes: We are 2/3 of the way through the year. This is a great time to have a conversation with your child reviewing your expectations regarding effort in class and citizenship at school. Additionally, ask your child about his/her supply of erasable pens. This is a good time to refresh your child's supply.

What's Going On This Week In Class:
Math: 
CGI problem solving with fractions: Comparing fractions and finding equivalent fractions; Khan Academy
* Homework in math this week will be test practice on previously taught skills. There is a high degree of difficulty on some problems. This is a good opportunity to work with your child on reasoning through problems. We will also be correcting and discussing each night's HW in class the next morning. 

Reading:
Scholastic News: Reading descriptive non-fiction articles.


Writing:

Drafting (and typing) opinion essays.

Drafting modern fairy tales.

PE:
Students are creating 2 to 3 minute jumprope routines incorporating a mix of beginner, intermediate, and advanced routines.


Social Studies/ Science:
Beginning of California's Gold Rush and California Statehood

Physical Science - Energy (closed and open circuits)
