Classroom News for the Week of February 10th

News and Upcoming Events: 

2/10 Orchestra students: bring your instruments.


2/14 Valentine's Day! - Students will have time to exchange valentines at the end of the day. Please have your child bring a box or bag for collecting valentines. We have 35 students in class. Students will be bring home a class list on Monday for those students wanting to personalize their cards. Small treats attached to cards are fine, but please do not send additional donuts, cupcakes, cookies, etc on this day. There are students in the class with tree nut and dairy allergies.

2/17 Presidents' Day Holiday

2/25  Grade 4 Spelling Bee. Participation is optional, and all students are strongly urged to give it a try. A word list of all the words in the bee will be coming home this Monday. Audience will be made up of 4th grade students.

2/27 Save the Date: Wolves on Wheels 
Rollerskating Fundraiser 5-7pm. We are waiting on confirmation. Detailed info will be sent out asap.

JPL Field Trip Update:

Thank you to all the parents who worked to get us a field trip to JPL! A parent in room 11 was able to secure a date for April 13th.

2/11 UPDATE -All Chaperone spots have been filled. Thank you


What's Going On This Week In Class:
Math: 
CGI problem solving with fractions. 

* Homework in math this week will be test practice on previously taught skills. There is a high degree of difficulty on some problems. This is a good opportunity to work with your child on reasoning through problems. We will also be correcting and discussing each night's HW in class the next morning. 

Reading:
Analyzing common fairy tales for patterns, rules, and stereotypes in preparation for the fairy tale unit.

Bud, Not Buddy: Chapter 19 and prologue. AR text on the book.

Writing:

Writing book reviews on Bud, not Buddy (summarizing and supporting opinions)

Beginning research on Black History Month class project.

Essay writing: This week students will choose an idea to develop into a full essay.

PE:
Jumprope unit continued.

Spelling & Vocabulary:
See note above.

Arts:
Design winners! Students will also get an opportunity to redesign their chairs.

Social Studies/ Science:
Trade during the Rancho Period

Physical Science - Energy (closed and open circuits)
