Classroom News for the Week of May 18th

Updates:
You should be seeing a notification to update to the latest version (5.0) of ZOOM. Please do so prior to MAY 30th. If you don't have the update in place, it will automatically update when your child logs on to the meeting causing him/her to be late or miss it.

Zoom meetings this week:
  • Monday & Wednesday meetings: Bring paper, thin marker or pen for note-taking
  • Thursday: Art with Ms. Ng: Students will need:
    • Access to Google Slides - They can use their lausd mymail account to access their Google Drive account. Please have a new slide template OPEN on another tab, separate from the ZOOM meeting.
    • A pad of post-its or 12 small sheets of paper
    • Paper, pencil, markers
* Looking ahead: DATE CHANGE - For the week of 5/25 Enrichment - students will need some cardboard, string, and ideally flexible straws, although regular straws can work as well.

New Work on Khan Academy:

Students have new work under ACTIVE Assignments on Khan Academy - this is review work on Rounding, Estimating, and Multiplying. Please work towards finishing at or near the due date of this Friday.

Students who have unfinished work in the Geometry and/or Fraction Unit: You can still find this work by looking under Assignments - there are 2 tabs to toggle between - it has been moved under Past rather than Active. Please do your best to finish this work.

Gallery of Student Work:
There is a new tab on SKIES named "Gallery of Student Work". Check out the fantastic work your classmates have been doing! Feel free to leave POSITIVE feedback.  You may continue to post assignments here if you have not done so.

Epic:

Parents should have received an email from me inviting you to create your child's Epic account. Your child won't need this for his/her classwork, but it is a good resource for free, online reading they can use for self-selected independent reading. Sign in with class code: ecb6050

Distance Learning Outline:

1. Students should check their email each day for any communications from me.They will always receive an email on Monday with  Zoom time and instructions.

2. Students should log in to skieslearn.com each morning. Think of this as a "homeroom" that students should check into and find the day's work. I will also be on Skies (see #4 below). After you've logged into Skies, navigate:

My Class
Week of _____ (Choose current week. You will see 4 tabs:)
  • ELA
  • Enrichment
  • Math
  • Science or Social Studies (these will alternate each week).
Click on each tab to see that day's work. (Students will have a math, ELA, Enrichment, and Social Studies or Science assignment each day.)

3. Students complete and submit work each day and receive scoring and feedback from me. They can check back in the afternoon or the following morning for my feedback. Students may resubmit work the following day for re-scoring if necessary. Students will receive automatic feedback on Khan.

4. I will be on Skies every morning. There is a chat type and voice feature (bottom right) where I can assist students.
