Classroom News for the Week of December 3rd

News and Upcoming Events: 


12/3: We ran out of time last week- "Friday Folders" will be sent home today.  Orchestra students: Bring your instruments. 

  • Tickets are on sale this week for the "Wolves on Wheels" fundraiser (see 1/24 below.) 
  • You can purchase tickets with cash or check (made payable to "Mt. Washington El." at the table in front of the school Monday after school,Tuesday before school,  and Wed., Thurs., Friday before and after school.  Your child can also bring money/check to class.
  • Tickets are $20/pp advance. $25 at the door.

12/4 Jazz at Lincoln Center assembly for upper grade students

12/6 and 12/7 Rm. 12 will visit the Book Fair. Unfortunately, we have had several students report that their snack shack money was taken from backpacks over the last several weeks. If your child is planning to make a purchase, s/he may want to keep cash securely on their person. The may also bring it in a sealed envelope with their names written on it and I will hold it until the visit. Please accompany your child after school to the book fair to pay for larger purchases.

12/10:  Winter Program MPR - 10:45 am TK- 2 Families; 1:00 pm 3rd - 6th Families


Project-Based Learning (PBL): What Makes Our State Special? Parents are invited and encouraged to attend as you make up our audience of potential travelers. We hope you can make it!

  • 12/11 -PBL Presentations 8:30- 9:00 in rm 12: Reign, Emmet M., Oliver, Alice, Frances, Dakota, Lillian, Malcolm, June, Roxy, Lilah, Julien

  • 12/12 - PBL Presentations 8:30- 9:00 in rm 12: Tegan, Solaris, George, Zacheri, Roman, Ben, Sharbel, Mila, Nova, Brandon, Liam, Avery

  • 12/13 - PBL Presentations 8:30- 9:00 in rm. 12: Lily, Damian, Malcolm, Stella, Chloe, Mia, Emmett P, Scarlett, Gabriel


12/14 Grade 4 "At the Movies" Holiday Party. Students: please bring $3 cash by Friday, December 7 to pay for party supplies and goodies.

12/17 - 1/4 Winter break. School resumes Monday, January 7th.


1/10 - Mission Project due. Outline of project requirements (2 pages) can be found under "Class Handouts" in the Link tab at right. Please note due date is Jan. 10th not Jan. 11th.


1/18 - Field Trip to Leonis Adobe Museum in Calabasas. Our class can take 3 chaperones. Please email me at slc5001@lausd.net if you are willing and able to supervise a student group. Chaperones are assigned on a first come/first serve basis. Please know you will need to drive your child and to and back from the trip, and fill out an insurance waiver form. This trip involves significant standing and walking, and is entirely out of doors. Thank you for your help!

1/24 Save the Date! First Annual "Wolves on Wheels" fundraiser.  
Helps us raise money to purchase needed classroom items for grades 4 though 6 Let's have great night and skate together from 5-7 p.m. at Moonlight Rollerway in Glendale! $20 ticket donation per person. Everyone who enters must have a ticket regardless if they skate or not. Hope to see you there!

Multiplication continued: 2 x 2 digit multiplication using the area model and partial products method, and standard algorithm.

Poetry: Analyzing text for meaning

Students have started a new round of Genre Genius. Ask your child about which genres s/he has selected.



Engineering/Design Challenge:

Build an NBS monument honoring Karana.  We will begin printing 3D prototypes this week!

Homework:
Please check your child's Homework Log nightly and sign or initial after the work has been completed. Remind your child that completed homework and the HW log are due in class daily.
