Classroom News for the Week of April 20th

Updates:

Zoom meetings this week:
Students should bring about 15 index cards and a dark marker to write with.  Alternatively, they can cut rectangles out of paper (approx. 3" x 5"). If they have a dry erase board/marker this can work as well.

Poetry Recitation:
Last week your child selected a poem to memorize and recite for the class. Your child should make a video reciting the poem from memory, and post it in the Student Work Gallery on SKIES by Friday April 24th.

Epic:
You will be receiving an email from me inviting you to create your child's Epic account. Your child won't need this to for his/her classwork, but it is a good resource for free, online reading they can use for self-selected independent reading.

Distance Learning Outline:

1. Students should check their email each day for any communications from me.They will always receive an email on Monday with their weekly Zoom time and instructions.

2. Students should log in to skieslearn.com each morning. Think of this as a "homeroom" that students should check in to and find the day's work. I will also be on Skies (see #4 below). After you've logged into Skies, navigate:
My Class
Week of _____ (Choose current week. You will see 4 tabs:)
  • ELA
  • Enrichment
  • Math
  • Science or Social Studies (these will alternate each week).
Click on each tab to see that day's work. (Students will have a math, ELA, Enrichment, and Social Studies or Science assignment each day.)

3. Students complete and submit work each day and receive scoring and feedback from me. They can check back in the afternoon or the following morning for my feedback. Students may resubmit work the following day for re-scoring if necessary. Students will receive automatic feedback on Khan.

4. I will be on Skies every morning. There is a chat type and voice feature (bottom right) where I can assist students.

Ongoing Projects:

BGHS Book Report
Please email a photo of your book report project or submit it as a google doc once you've finished.

Fairy Tales
Work on fairy tale illustrations. Send me a photo of your finished book when you're done. Work toward a May 1 deadline. Illustrations:

* Less tech option: Print your story. Use plain white paper to draw and color your illustrations. Use markers, crayon, colored pencil, water color - your choice! Insert these pages in between your typed story.

* More tech option: Draw and illustrate your pictures on paper, take photos of your illustrations, use Insert ↠ Image to upload them into your document.

Your finished fairy tale should have:

  • A cover (Title and author, illustration)
  • A typed story
  • At least 3 illustrations
